The Stony Lake Heritage Foundation

Helping to protect the historic and environmental character of Stony Lake since 1996

About the Foundation

The Stony Lake Heritage Foundation was established in 1996 to protect the natural and built environment and heritage of Stony Lake. Since then, the Foundation has  distributed over a million dollars on a variety of projects.   In the recent past, the projects we have supported include water quality testing, natural shoreline restoration, preservation of heritage buildings at Juniper Island, environmental studies, preparation of a formal Lake Plan for Stony Lake and important lake-wide wetland surveys.   Our major project at this time is the reconstruction of the Juniper Island Store and important repairs to the Boathouse used by the SLYC.

The Foundation is a registered charity (registration #999597283).  Receipts for income tax purposes will be issued for all donations of $30 or more.

 Governance

The Foundation is a federally incorporated not-for-profit corporation.  The members of the Foundation are the members from time to time of the Association of Stoney Lake Cottagers Inc. ("ASLC")   Anyone who joins the ASLC automatically becomes a member of the Foundation.  The annual meeting of the Foundation is held at Stony Lake at the same date as the annual meeting of the members of the Association of Stoney Lake Cottagers.   The next annual meeting of the Foundation will be held in July 2016.

The affairs of the Foundation are managed by its Board of Directors.   The Directors of the Foundation are elected annually by the members for a term of one year.  There are currently seven directors of the Foundation:  Kathleen Gillespie, Blair Mackenzie (Chair), Ken McRoberts, Cathy Nelson, Jane Ross, Roz Titley, and Phil Walton (Treasurer and Secretary).
