The lake, like most lakes in Ontario, were created during and after the last ice age. Various tribes of indians lived in the area and became farmers of the  land. In the 16th century Champlain passed through Stony Lake with the couriers de bois on his way back from the west.

ASLC Canoeing Program

Dates:

  • Mondays and Wednesdays from July 5 through July 30 (4 weeks)

Times:

  • Two classes each Day
    • Class 1:   For children in Swim Levels 5 and above, their paddling class is 9:45 to 10:30.  
    • Class 2:   For children in Swim Levels 4 and below, their paddling class is 10:45 to 11:30.

Requirements:       

  • Any child is eligible for paddling class.
  • Paddlers will need a paddle and an appropriate PFD.   
  • Children 7 years old and under must be accompanied by a parent, or a responsible babysitter.     
  • Children must wear a life-jacket,  should bring a paddle and, if possible, a canoe.     
  • For their safety, we prefer children do NOT wear shoes in canoes unless they are tightly fitting water shoes.

  • If you have a canoe you are not using, consider donating it to the program.  
  • Also consider loaning  a canoe.  If you have a spare canoe we can borrow for July we would appreciate it.  
  • Please contact Cecily Morrow to arrange for pick-up.
